Island Travel: Jamaica

While their dozens of islands in the Caribbean to choose from, Jamaica is definitely a great pick to travel to. However, there are a couple key things to know about the island before packing your bags and boarding the next flight straight away. First things first is to plan on staying in tourist friendly areas. Unless you already understand a good amount of Patois and are planning on holding some Jamaican dollars during your stay, you will probably have a hard time adventuring to lesser tourist attracted areas and might not have the appropriate form of payment. Also, make sure to be careful on the roads since not only do they drive on the left side instead of the right, but the road themselves can be narrow, filled with potholes, and have other aggressive drivers.

Once you do all that, you are ready to start exploring the island. There are many places that have historical landsites and museums to visit like Kingston, the capital of Jamaica. There are other places like Montego Bay that are more for entertainment such as bamboo rafting down Martha Brae river, zip lining, snorkeling, and even horseback riding in the water. They even have mountains that can be hiked, including the famous Jamaican Blue Mountain range where blue mountain coffee is grown.

  

 

After spending a couple hours exploring Jamaica and its attraction, you, like most people, are going to get hungry and want to eat. Luckily, Jamaica offers a lot of great dishes on the island ranging from great to delicious. Many dish like Ackee and saltfish, fried plantain, and even Oxtail with rice and peas are national favorites in Jamaica and when prepared, it can be seen as to why that is the case. If you have more of a sugar tooth, then you can also try their desserts such as rum cake and coco bread.
