Traveling to Cuba

 How Do I Get There?:

Like any place outside the U.S., I am going to need a valid passport and return ticket to get back home. I will also need a tourist visa, a travel insurance policy with medical coverage in case of an emergency, and some Cuban Pesos since the US Dollar is only used at airports or other small vendors.

Where Do I Stay?:

While there are many places to stay while in Cuba, but if I want to make sure I feel safe and relatively close to most of the attractions, my best option is to go with a hotel, specifically one in a city or even just a tourist-friendly area. With that in mind, The Butterfly Hotel is a good option with its relatively cheap cost and it is outside of Havana.

Where Do I Go?:

Havana is a great start since there are a lot of historical landmarks and attractions to see and is the closest city to the hotel I choose to stay at. However, if I really wanted to travel I little farther I can visit some of their most famous beach areas such as Varadero or Guardalavaca if I really wanted to travel far.

What Do I Do?

Luckily for me, Cuba has many attractions to visit and see while there. As mentioned above, Havana has lots of historical sites to visit, such as the Plaza de la Catedral and the Castillo de la Real Fuerza. I could visit some more Natural landmarks and explore the Alejandro de Humboldt National Park. There even attractions that are just for fun such as watching the Tropicana Nightclub Show or maybe taking a tour around Old Havana.

How much will this cost?

While Cuba is a great place to visit, it will definitely put a hole in my wallet. First off, to get the cheapest flight to Cuba, I would have to go to and leave from Miami which would be around $162 for around trip. The Butterfly Hotel, while being one of the cheapest hotels to find, is still $71 a night. Lastly, the average amount I want to be spending while there is around $50. So to put that all together, a 4 day trip to Cuba will cost me around  $646.
